Lem Johns, Secret Service Agent For Lyndon Johnson

Lem Johns who was guarding Vice-President Lyndon Johnson in Dallas the day President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, has passed away at the age of 88. The NY TIMES recounts that day and his career in the Secret Service.

One of three generations of secret service agents in the Johns’ family, he was riding in the car behind then Vice-President Johnson when he heard the shots ring out. Jumping out of the car he tried to get to Johnson in the car ahead of his however the motorcade took off at high-speed and he was left on the street. He jumped in a car carrying photographers and then transferred to a police motorcycle sidecar to get to Parkland Memorial Hospital.

He found the Vice President safe and went scouting for a safe exit to use to get Johnson out of the hospital but while he was searching, the Vice President was hurried into an unmarked police car and taken back to Love Field and Air Force I, leaving Mr. Johns once again left behind.

He joined Johnson’s White House detail and served and was named the detail’s chief in 1965.

Senator Jeff Sessions Raises Concerns About SSI Benefits

Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee Jeff Sessions is asking for an explanation about fast tracking of benefits for people who don’t speak English. Sessions is questioning a policy for SSDI payments that allows individuals to qualify for benefits more quickly if “they are incapable of communicating in English.” Can this possible be true? A quick yes or no response is all that is necessary. Then swift action taken.

Read the report in the Washington Free Beacon and then follow the outrage in the national media. Or see if it is even noticed by the national media would be more like it.

Update: Warped Ideas From The Los Angeles Times

It just gets better and better. Or is it worse and worse. The dust-up over the Pasadena City College commencement speaker continues and the City Health Director is now on paid leave because of comments he made that the intolerant among us insist are hateful.

Quick review.  Dustin Lance Black was dis-invited to speak at the PCC graduation ceremonies because of photos on the internet of him and a sex partner. Nothing to be embarrassed about here his supporters shout. Then   Eric Walsh was slated to speak in place of Mr. Black. Well leave it to the Students for Social Justice to find truly terrible comments that Mr. Walsh has made and to insist that he not be allowed to speak because his hateful and insensitive comments should preclude him from being a speaker at PCC. Not only is he not going to speak but he has been placed on  temporary paid administrative leave by the City of Pasadena while they investigate  to determine if his comments are grounds for termination.

Although Mr. Walsh is a man of color, which would allow him to say what he wants in the most vulgar of terms if he wanted to, in this case he is in hot water because he isn’t part of the liberal elite. Mr. Walsh is actually a Seventh-day Adventist preacher and you just know his social views are not going to be tolerated by the tolerant Students for Social Justice.

To recap, Mr. Walsh needs to be banned from campus because of his sermons as a Seventh-Day Adventist preacher and Mr. Black must be welcomed because photos of him and another man doing what they enjoy doing shouldn’t be held against him. Mr. Black accused college administrators of attempting to shame him for his sexuality. But of course he thinks it is his sexual preference that is the issue not that photos of him in sexual situations have been distributed world-wide.

Once again there is no place for contrary opinions in the eyes of liberals. You must allow them to have their say. Then you must agree with what they say. Then you must endorse what they say or they will destroy you. Preach tolerance sister.

California Death Row Inmate Richard Ramirez, Dies

Richard Ramirez, the so-called Night Stalker, has died of natural causes at the age of 53. He was sentenced to death after his conviction in 1989 of 13 counts of murder and other crimes. Seems death row in California is where one goes and usually dies before the state is able to get to the execution.
Since 1978 when California reinstituted the death penalty there have been 13 executions. But 59 inmates have died of natural causes while 22 have committed suicide and another six have died from unspecified causes. Oh yes, one other person was actually executed by the state of Missouri.
